ALLEN HIRSH

a wide array of representational, impressionist, surreal and abstract images purely through the use of mathematics.

Some background, some history, some philosophy

I have created a painting system that moves each pixel to a new location and colors each pixel individually. I test a wide range of mathematical equations’ artistic potential. I hope to achieve several artistic goals:

  1. Show that a mathematical painting system can produce art worthy of the respect accorded manually created art;
  2. Explore art hidden in the real-world imagery of photographs;
  3. Explore interacting mathematical forms for their artistic potential;
  4. Explore the limits of beauty, at the intersection of the organic and the synthetic-inspired by Picasso.

My philosophical musings

“I became convinced that the way to make really good art was to do the outrageous, the unexpected—to be a renegade. That was my philosophy—to explore the seemingly impossible in art, to do things that were new for their own sake, whether they were good or bad.”

— Gene Davis
